Organizing the Desktop for Lorre
Organizing the desktop is of course a matter of personal preference,
but for these exercises it is recommended to reserve about half of the screen
for this window (called Manual) which displays explanatory text.
The other windows which will open can be handled as follows:
-
1. The Praat Objects window stores relevant data (objects) for the exercises.
As long as you are not an experienced Praat user*1, you do not have to interact with it and
you may minimize it, but do not close it.
-
2. The Praat Picture window, which may show up on the right
half of your screen, may be used by future exercises for visual feedback.
But currently, none of the exercises are using it, so you can safely close it.
-
3. As soon as you click an exercise, a fourth Praat Demo window will open.
For some exercises, this window can be a bit too large, so you have to resize it to
fit the remaining other half of the screen. As long as you do not close this window at
the end of an exercise, you won't have to resize it at the start of the next one.
*1 All exercises generate various objects in the Praat Objects window.
Once you become an experienced Praat user, you can use them for your own purposes.
